The majority of Irish courses welcome visitors. You can access most without being the guest of a member as long as you meet handicap criteria and course etiquette. However, some courses are private and allow play only as a guest of a member - such as Hog's Head, Milltown, Clane and Kilmashogue Golf Club.

No, for most courses in Ireland you do not need an official handicap to play so long as you can maintain the pace of play and follow course etiquette. The exception to this is top tier links courses where handicaps are required by all visitors. Royal Portrush, Portmarnock, Ballybunion, Royal County Down, Lahinch, Waterville and similar courses require handicaps to play.

Yes, green fee prices for all Irish courses are up to date on GemTees.com. We present the green fees in brackets such as €55-€75. This allows you to easily filter to find courses in your budget while still showing an accurate green fee price if a club changes rates slightly with a daily promotion.

For courses where the green fee is above ~€200 there is often a discount offered for Irish resident golfers who are members of Golf Ireland. Particularly on Links courses in the West of Ireland. These discounts allow a small number of tee-times to be available for local players at a more affordable rate each year. Discounts are at the discretion of each course.

Course difficulty on GemTees.com is primarily based on Slope rating data for each course. In simple terms, Slope rating indicates how challenging a course is for the average golfer. Our filters simplify this by letting you search for Easy, Medium, Hard or Very Hard courses. Easy courses will have wide fairways and manageable hazards while Very Hard courses will typically be championship level.

A course ranked 200+ in Ireland may at first glance appear to be unnotable but in other similar countries that same course would rank well inside the top 50.

An inland links is a course built to mimic the feel of a true links but built away from the coast. Inland links can often share characteristics with true links such as sand based turf and dune-like hills - but these are usually man-made.
